The Climate Within: Films, Reflection & Connection

December 5th | 1:00 - 4:30pm Eastern

Join the CPA-NA STEM Committee for a mini virtual film festival and community gathering exploring the emotional and human dimensions of the climate crisis.

What happens when the scientists studying climate change make space to explore how that work affects them personally? Through two films featuring climate scientists navigating grief, uncertainty, responsibility, care and hope, we’ll create space to consider the emotional dimensions of climate science and the experience of living and working with knowledge of a changing planet. Guided reflection, grounding and journaling activities, and an optional small-group discussion will invite us to witness, process, and connect around the feelings that can arise in the face of climate change.

Whether you’re a scientist, researcher, clinician, student, or simply someone engaged with climate work, this welcoming, participatory event offers an opportunity to connect with others, reflect on what we carry, hear different perspectives, and explore how we can support ourselves and one another.

Annette Dubreuil is the founder of PUPA Focusing and a Certifying Coordinator with The International Focusing Institute. She teaches individuals, groups, and future Focusing Teachers through her two-year training certification program. Annette helps people strengthen access to their intuition—especially the subtle knowing that arises in the body as the felt sense. She developed the PUPA process, crossing Gendlin’s Focusing and Otto Scharmer’s Theory U to support transformative personal and collective change to create a better world. She has a background in environmental science and sustainability, and over 20 years of experience communicating and supporting climate change and sustainability initiatives.

Kristan Childs

Kristan Childs creates and facilitates spaces where people can meet the emotional realities of our changing world with greater resilience, connection, and care. She supports climate professionals—including scientists—through teaching, conferences, workshops, courses, and retreats focused on climate emotions, ecological grief, and inner resilience. Her work blends research-informed practices with reflection, connection, creativity, and time in nature. Kristan believes we need more than information to navigate these times: we need spaces where we can acknowledge what is difficult, remember what we love, and discover that we don’t have to carry it all alone.
